Dear Friend
I have come searching for answers, but so far have not found the answer to my question.
After many years of spiritual endeavor, and varying fasts that spontaneously occurred without my intent.
I realized another fast was beginning Christmas Eve 2005
Being used to it by now, I just went along with a complete fast, but did drink minimally.
After it continued for quite a while, I thought it would be better to eat a small amount , just to keep my digestive system ticking over.
So, I eat a little cereal or fruit for breakfast, and still drink a little'
As even that is becoming distasteful. I thought I ought to seek info, which led me to your site.
I wish to know whether one who continues to fast completely for a long time, whether there elimination system atrophies, so that should they need to eat ,they would be unable to.
My weight has not changed one iota, and I still look OK.
Not sure whether my decision to eat a tiny amount was intuition, or am I over ruling that?
If I have made myself clear I would appreciate advice.
Thanks MARK

The digestive track, as any other body organ being not used, will atrophy a little. One life time is not enough for an organ to atrophy to a state that it cannot be bring back to it's full working conditions, although this may be difficult.
As for the body there is much more important thing – to give the body all it needs in right amount, at right time. Whenever you give the body more or less of something that we call food, you hurt it.
I suggest that you objectively FEEL the body, keep your attention on feeling the body, how it functions, what it needs to function properly, etc.
