I did a 46.5-hour fast (22.5h dry + 24h water).
Scheduled for nov 8th-10th was 63 hours (36h dry + 27h water).
Dryfast: I'm now 36-22.5=13.5 hours behind schedule.
Waterfast: Before this fast I was 4 hours behind schedule. I'm now 4+(27-24)=7 hours behind schedule.
In summary: FAIL. No excuses.
[edit: I even forgot to weigh myself before breaking the fast]

OK, so now I'm a total of 20.5 hours (7 wet + 13.5 dry) behind schedule. Previously I've gotten as much as 29 hours behind schedule and still recouped all the lost time, so I should be able to fix this one too.
Looking forward, I initially intended to go from 3-day to 4-day cycles but now I've decided to go with 3.5-day cycles instead, since it fits nicely in a weekly schedule, with exactly two cycles per week. Since the start of the next cycle is aligned with the start of the week (monday) this seems like a good time to do the switch. Let it be so! |

Two more slightly botched fasts this week...
I'm now more than 60 hours behind schedule (details below).
It's clear that the current schedule isn't working.
It's time to go back to the drawing board!
I will calculate my actual long-term average fasting level, and restart the process from there.
First off, I will revert back from 3.5-day to 3-day cycles.
It's only been six days since I started on my 3.5-day schedule anyway, so it's actually just a conceptual change.
There are two reasons I'm reverting.
1. To be able to calculate my actual average I want to keep all the cycles at equal length.
2. I want to keep the feeding windows to 24 hours or less at all times,
and since my long-term average fasting time is well below the magic 60-hour threshold (details in next post),
I will not be able to keep that constraint if I keep going with 3.5-day (84-hour) cycles.
Before doing these the two latest fasts I was 20.5 hours behind schedule (13.5h dry + 7h water).
Here are the stats for the two fasts:
Nov 11th-13th
- Did a 48-hour fast (15h dry + 33h water).
- Scheduled for this cycle was 64 hours (38h dry + 26h water).
Nov 14th-16th
- Did a 40-hour fast (20.5h dry + 19.5h water).
- Scheduled for this cycle was 65 hours (40h dry + 25h water).
After doing these two latest fasts I am now a whopping 61.5 hours behind schedule (56h dry + 5.5h water).
Conclusion: The current schedule is clearly not realistic anymore.

Calculating my current REAL fasting level
- I've been doing eighteen 3-day cycles now.
- The average (scheduled) fasting time is (starttime + endtime) / 2 which calculates to (48 + 65) / 2 = 56.5 hours.
- The total (scheduled) fasting time is number_of_cycles * average which calculates to 18 * 56.5 = 1017 hours.
- BUT...As mentioned in the last post, I am 61.5 hours behind (the current) schedule, which means that my true total is 1017 - 61.5 = 955.5 hours.
- THUS...My true average fasting time over the last eighteen 3-day cycles is 955.5 / 18 hours, which floors to 53 hours.
Calculating my current REAL dry-fasting level
- I've been doing nine (partial) dryfasting cycles now.
- The average (scheduled) dryfasting time is (starttime + endtime) / 2 which calculates to (24 + 40) / 2 = 32 hours.
- The total (scheduled) fasting time is number_of_cycles * average which calculates to 9 * 32 = 288 hours.
- BUT...As mentioned in the last post, I am 56 dryfasting hours behind (the current) schedule, which means that my true total is 288 - 56 = 232 hours.
- THUS...My true average dryfasting time over the last nine 3-day cycles is 232 / 9 hours, which floors to 25 hours.

Since I am already certain that I will not reach the new baseline of 53 hours for my next fast (nov 17th-19th)
due to a planned socially-related meal on nov 18th, and since I don't want to start the new schedule with a time deficit,
I will set the baseline level to 52 hours instead, to get some buffer hours. However, I will keep the 25-hour dryfasting baseline. |

SUMMARY OF MY INEDIA PROJECT SO FAR
Phase 0
Transitioning from daily 12-hour fasts to eating every other day. Took a little more than a year of (admittedly not-so-focused) work.
Phase 1
Start: Jun 24th, 2013
Description: Did 23 fasts over 46 consecutive days (two days per cycle), with an average fasting time of 24 hours (i.e. every-other-day-fasting).
To be continued... |

...SUMMARY OF MY INEDIA PROJECT SO FAR, continued
Phase 2
Start: Aug 9th, 2013
Description:
Did 23 fasts over 46 consecutive days (two days per cycle),
starting with 25 hours fasting time and increasing each consecutive fast with on average 1 hour,
ending with a 47-hour fast for sep 22nd-23rd.
To be continued... |

...SUMMARY OF MY INEDIA PROJECT SO FAR, continued
Phase 3
Start: Sep 24th, 2013
Description:
- Did 18 fasts over 54 consecutive days (three days per cycle),
- The average fasting time was 53 hours (floored). (see Addendum below)
- The first 9 of these fasts were pure water fasts.
- The last 9 of these fasts were part water, part dry.
- The dry part of the last 9 fasts averaged to 25 hours (floored).
[Edited] Addendum: For book-keeping reasons (I wanted a few extra buffer hours going into Phase 4) I set the nominal fasting time to 52 hours. |

OK, that was a brief summary of what I've achieved so far. Yay me!
Now it's time for...
Phase 4!
...but first there is som initial book-keeping to do. I have a few spillover (buffer) hours from Phase 3...
Total buffer time:
Eighteen 53-hour fasts sum up to 954 hours, while I actually did 955.5 fasting hours for Phase 3,
giving me 1.5 buffer hours.
But, as previously explained I decided to set the nominal average fasting time of Phase 3 to 52 hours instead,
which gives me 18 extra hours.
Thus, I have 19.5 hours of total buffer time going into Phase 4.
Dryfasting buffer time:
Nine 25-hour dryfasts sum up to 225 hours, while I actually did 232 dryfasting hours for Phase 3.
Thus, I have 7 hours of dryfasting buffer time going into Phase 4.
Waterfasting buffer time:
Total buffertime MINUS dryfasting buffertime EQUALS waterfasting buffertime:
19.5 - 7 = 12.5
Thus, I have 12.5 hours of waterfasting buffer time going into Phase 4.
To be continued... |

Phase 4: The Goal
Goal for this phase:
To transition to the level of doing one 60-hour fast (30 hours dry + 30 hours water) for every 72-hour period.
This phase will be divided into two parts: Phase 4A and Phase 4B.
- Phase 4A will take me to 30 hours of dryfasting (total fasting time is kept constant at 53 hours) per 72-hour cycle.
- Phase 4B will take me to 60 hours of total fasting time (dryfasting time is kept constant at 30 hours) per 72-hour cycle.

Phase 4: Let's go!
I'm now 30 hours into my first Phase4-fast.
I began with 24 hours of waterfasting, and am now 6 hours into the dryfast part. Feeling good!
I just realized it's been a while since I weighed myself, so I just did, it's 72.9 kg.
Here are the initial stats:
Code: | | | Scheduled | Actual | Plus/Minus | Weight
# | Timeperiod | Dry Wet Tot | Dry Wet Tot | Dry Wet Tot | Kg
---+-------------+-------------+-------------+-------------+-------
| Start | | | +7 +12 +19 | 72.9
1 | Nov17-Nov19 | 26h 27h 53h | 24h | +9 |
2 | Nov20-Nov22 | 27h 26h 53h | | |
3 | Nov23-Nov25 | 28h 25h 53h | | |
4 | Nov26-Nov28 | 29h 24h 53h | | |
5 | Nov29-Dec01 | 30h 23h 53h | | |
6 | Dec02-Dec04 | 30h 24h 54h | | |
7 | Dec05-Dec07 | 30h 25h 55h | | |
8 | Dec08-Dec10 | 30h 26h 56h | | |
9 | Dec11-Dec13 | 30h 27h 57h | | |
10 | Dec14-Dec16 | 30h 28h 58h | | |
11 | Dec17-Dec19 | 30h 29h 59h | | |

Phase 4: ...well, I mean... NOW let's go!
Broke the fast after 41 hours (24 water + 17 dry).
As previously announced I had to finish this one early,
due to a social event with "required" (you always have a choice!) eating.
Thinking about the book-keeping "trick" I did,
skimming 1 hour off the average fasting time for phase 3
to get some buffer hours to carry over into phase 4...
...well, now it kinda feels like cheating.
So I've decided not to do that after all.
Also, I will count this latest fast as the last (#19) for phase 3.
My next fast will be the first of Phase 4.
Recalculating Phase 3
955.5 + 41 = 996.5 hours total fasting time over 19 fasts -->
--> a floored average of 52 hours and a remainder of 8.5 hours.
232 + 17 = 249 hours of dryfasting time over 10 fasts -->
--> a floored average of 24 hours and a remainder of 9 hours.
The remainder hours of Phase 3 will be discarded,
and Phase 4 will start with a clean slate.

Phase4: Hey man, what's the holdup? Let's GO already!
OK, this may seem a little anal retentive,
but I would feel better ending phase3 with the average fasting times being exact integers.
Why? Beacuse I like nice round numbers.
So to "burn up" all remainder hours I will do one more 43.5-hour fast (15h dry + 28.5h water) for nov 20th-22nd,
giving the following final (let's hope...) stats for Phase 3:
- 52.0 hours average fasting time (dry+water) over 20 consecutive three-day fasting cycles
- 24.0 hours average dryfasting time over the last 11 of these cycles
